Add to the colored map to learn seas, climate zones, latitude, longitude, time zones, and international dateline, arctic and Antarctic circles.   Two videos about latitude and longitude and the international dateline.
Final Product:  A colored map and the start of student history handbook.
3: 9/3

Deserts, practice class procedures (entrance, textbooks, dismissal)

Start “This Day in History” on Thursday/Friday
Final product is an “I am” poem about one of the deserts.  Grade for correct characteristics of that desert.

Start Ancient Civilizations: Mesopotamia and Egypt.

Essential Question:  Why does human nature need laws?
Start keeping a notebook of important people and events (in class) to use for wax museum at the end of the year.  Students will be able to portray any person or event (discussed in class) in the wax museum.

Final Product:  Write a thesis statement for an argument paper about why or why not we should have laws.
